It's The Grand Chessboard

Let me repeat my growing conviction about why we're in Afghanistan, as stated below:

We are not really in Afghanistan to fight terrorists like Al-Qaeda or to secure the blessings of liberty to all Afghanis. We are there primarily to establish the ability to have military bases there for a very long time, in order to secure access to the energy resources of Central Asia, to counter the looming threat of China to the east and the left-over threat of Russia to the north, and to check the regional ambitions of Iran, all long-term strategic goals of American foreign policy.
