Do Or Die

I agree with Eugene Robinson that true health care reform may be the litmus test for the progressive base of the Democrat party of Obama's intention. If he fails to achieve it, then it may become the final straw for many progressives, who will then, for all intents and purposes, abandon this administration because of its comprehensive failures to live up to its campaign purposes. And the Obama administration will have become a failed administration in less than one year. An excerpt:

This makes health care essentially an intramural fight among Democrats. The
party's activist left isn't as raucously gonzo as its Republican analogue. But
it would be a mistake for the president or Democratic leaders in Congress to
underestimate the passion for health-care reform among their party's activist
base.
