It has dawned on me that the next 20 to 25 years of my life (I'm 58) will be basically the equivalent of the first 20-25 years, only in reverse. I'll initially have more freedom when I retire, which will seem something like college (liberation from things that oppress--parents/responsibilities of adult life). Then as I age, I'll begin to become more like a child, quite dependent upon and accountable to those who care for me (parents/children). And I'll finally become like an infant, totally dependent upon others for care, until I leave this world, just as I entered it, by the act of stopping/starting breathing.
Thank you, Benjamin Button.
