The Congressional Maze

One of my sources of gloom for real progress in the current Administration is the difficulty in getting anything through Congress: Defense reform, health care reform, clean energy legislation, etc. All have significant opposition, including from Democrats, primarily because of special-interest lobbying power and the simply force of inertia.

Presidential historian Robert Dallek speaks to this in this article concerning LJB and his fight with Congress. Tidbit:

Perhaps the biggest surprise the Obama administration has faced in its first 100 days has not been the dismal state of the economy or the difficulties abroad with Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, but rather the grudging cooperation of the Democratic Congress.
