It is easy to get caught up in the personality of our new President and his incredible family. They are truly the most appealing First Family ever, bar none. They rival Jack and Jackie Kennedy's charisma, and moreover, who can dispute the fact that Kennedy was a compulsive adulterer, and therefore a most immoral man personally, in the final analysis. Add to this the fact that the Obamas are African-American, and you have public and world appeal that won't quit.
Yet, in the final analysis, Obama cannot be indispensible as President, and he cannot be judged primarily by his charisma. He will definitely be President for a maximum of eight years, and in this crazy environment, who knows when a domestic (or foreign, for that matter) terrorist will tragically shorten that. Furthermore, his personality, appeal, and charismatic, while fabulous, are only as good as his policies and personnel. If his policies and staff turn out to be fatally flawed, then all the charisma in the world won't matter, indeed, will only make things worse, by obscuring the really important things.
So I say, put his popularity and his charisma to the side, as best you can, and look not at what he says or how he looks or how cool he is. Rather look only at what he does with his policies and decisions, and who he appoints to carry them out. That, in the final analysis, is all that really matters.
